AMBER LANE DISTILLERY UNVEILS SECOND-FILL OF RUE DE LA LIQUEUR

Amber Lane has today unveiled the second-fill barrel of its previously sold-out Rue de La Liqueur - the first-ever whisky in the world to be aged in an ex-Chartreuse cask.

The highly-awaited expression, released to align with International Chartreuse Day (May 16), is the second iteration of Amber Lane’s Rue de La Liqueur, which sold out in record time last year.

The 2026 Rue de la Liqueur has been carefully aged in an ex-Heaven Hill 200L bourbon cask for four years, before being transferred into a second fill 225L ex-Yellow Chartreuse barrel for nine months, to create the truly unique vibrant yellow dram. The whisky was then placed into a third-fill ex-Heaven Hill bourbon cask for three extra months of resting, before being bottled.

A beloved French herbal liqueur, famous for its yellow colour, Chartreuse has a 400-year history, having been made to the same recipe by an order of monks since 1605.

Amber Lane has paid homage to the traditional Chartreuse liqueur with its 2026 release, creating a dram with notes of honey, botanicals, lemon meringue, vanilla, gentle spice and a hint of aniseed.

Amber Lane Distillery co-owner, Rod Berry, said: “We are excited to officially unveil the second iteration of our popular Rue de la Liqueur expression. Last year’s dram sold out in a matter of weeks - we had so many people asking for us to do it again, so we refilled the same cask with more aged ex-Bourbon cask spirit, and this is the result.

“This will likely be the final version of this expression, so we’re encouraging whisky and Chartreuse lovers alike to add this incredible whisky to their collection. We think it’s even better than last year’s release due to the more elegant impact of a second-fill, where flavour extraction is more gentle.”

Rue de La Liqueur (700mL single malt whisky, RRP $225, 46% ABV) will be officially launched at Amber Lane’s open day on Saturday (May 16) to coincide with International Chartreuse Day and World Whisky Day. Rue de la Liqueur-based cocktails will also be on-hand to showcase the whisky’s full potential.
